statement necklace.

ImageImageImageImage

i’ve been loving statement necklaces lately. the point of this post is to encourage you all to love them too! this bold accessory may intimidate some, but it’s actually really easy to pull off. my favorite way to style a statement necklace is to pair it with a super simple tee. if you want to try this look out, run over to your local forever 21 and pick up an inexpensive one. my favorite statement necklace was $12 from that store, and i absolutely adore it.

strappy sandals.

ImageImageImageImage

it’s time to book that much-needed pedicure, ladies: strappy sandals are on trend for this spring/summer! put those suede wedges away until the fall and start your search for these simple heels. we’ve always thought these shoes would only work for formal events, but they look great with so many ensembles. try them with your favorite dress, rolled jeans, or tight skinnies.

i love cutting sweatshirts.

Image

here’s an old sweatshirt that i love but thought was too boxy to wear (the horror, i know)…

this is why my mother would never leave me alone with scissors as a child, however, look how cute it turned out! incredible layering piece like i mentioned in a recent post.

and this is me wearing it… i swear, it takes less than five minutes. try it!

mollie king.

Image

the u.s. is a little late in their obsession of the saturdays (please re-read that in an english accent), so i’m sure anyone seeing this post who resides in the u.k. is thinking mollie king isn’t a new celebrity. well, she is to me and i want her to be my best friend. being that i’ll never hang out with her over coffee while she calls me “babe” during an uplifting conversation about life, i’ll just google her and keep sending pictures of her hair to my stylist.

when i first saw wedge sneakers breaking into the scene, i was completely unimpressed. i didn’t think they were that cute and i thought only hip girls in brooklyn could pull them off. fast forward a few months later and i just bought my first pair. yes, my finite thinking is always fleeting…

i was shopping with my sister and came across steve madden’s jeckle wedge sneaker. i felt beyond cool when i tried them on… and beyond bummed that i wasn’t willing to put down $100 on the purchase!

i went on an obsessive search and found a tame version with an awesome $29 price tag. fingers crossed i can pull these unique kicks off!

diy layered hoodie.

Image

as i was putting on my jean jacket yesterday, i felt like something was missing. so, i grabbed an old zip-up hoodie, chopped off the sleeves, and layered it under my jacket. it took me all of 30 seconds and it looked so cute!

by cutting off the sleeves, i was able to add this adorable layer without the risk of overheating while wearing two long-sleeve pieces. if you have any old hoodies, which you know you do, i recommend trying this out.

five wardrobe essentials.

ImageImageImageImageImage

here are five pieces to add to your wardrobe that’ll take you from getting dressed to getting noticed!

1.) moto jacket – this piece goes with an endless number of ensembles and it has the ability to add instant edge while still keeping your shape.

2.) leather skirt – a skirt like this can make you look super fem or a gothic queen. pair it with black tights during the colder months and with a strappy heel during the warm summer nights.

3.) patterned pants – patterns are all over pants these days, and it’s a great way to add some serious flare to your everyday trouser. try some slouchy pants or a funky print on your favorite type of skinnies.

4.) vintage-inspired dress – when you find a dress like this, don’t let it go. It can be worn for many years since it’ll never go out of style. it can effortlessly go from day to evening.

5.) jean shirt – i’ve posted about this before, and I’ll keep posting! this shirt is an awesome piece to add all year ’round. tie it, button it, leave it open – the options could go on forever.

jean vest.

ImageImageImageImage

hello readers! my sincere apologies for the brief hiatus. let’s talk about vests as if no time has passed :)

vests are a super easy way to add some funk to your everyday outfit. they have the power to totally change your look without adding much bulk, heat, or thought! a jean vest is really functional, as you can see from the pics, and they’re inexpensive to purchase.

better yet, take a tip from the boys of sons of anarchy: cut off the sleeves of an old jean jacket and you just gave your wardrobe a distressed, funky, and adorable vest addition!

valentine’s day dress.

it’s not too early to start planning for valentine’s day, right? this adorable dress from topshop is perfect for keeping warm on a february night without losing any of the mandatory cuteness needed for this special day.

photo booths are all the rage at events these days. they’re fun, they create lasting memories, and with my setup, they’re inexpensive!

using my own curtains as a backdrop, i simply added: big-bulbed christmas lights (can be hung or held), $1 props from michael’s, a homemade bunt banner, and my wonderful friends.
